Just Be Held

Do you ever feel like you need to be strong for everyone else?  You can’t show weakness, you can’t let anyone else know you’re struggling, and heaven forbid someone actually see tears in your eyes!  I often talk to people who are absolutely exhausted, not just from the battles they fight, but also because they put so much effort into showing the world how strong they are.  They believe the solution is to hold on.  Hold on to their image.  Hold on to their pain and grief.  Hold on to their problems.  Hold on to their secrets.  They hold on, just hoping to make it through unscathed.  Have you ever wondered why you hold on so tightly?  Could it be that you simply don’t trust God?

If you answered yes, you’re not alone.  For years I struggled to just hold on, and to be strong.  After all, I had an image to uphold and people looked to me for strength.  I can tell you, living this way only leads to burn-out.  By God’s grace, He is continually teaching and this is what I’ve learned

  1. God can be trusted with all things.
  2. I will never grow until I surrender everything to Him.
  3. God is Sovereign, not just over the universe, but over my life as well.
  4. God is accomplishing His plan and fulfilling His promise to sanctify me.

Above all, I’m learning that I don’t have to hold on, but I do need to be held, and I can trust God with my weakness and inability because He will never disappoint, He will never disappear and He will never let go.

This song, written by Mark Hall and recorded by Casting Crowns, has been a huge encouragement to me.  I hope you enjoy it also.
